In a casino, a woman finishes work, and walks to her car. She drives away, and another car starts up after her... she's running through the woods, half dressed, comes to the glass patio door of a house and pounds on it, breaking it; she begins bleeding, and the dog in the house starts barking. She runs off down the street shouting for someone to help her. ...She lies on the ambulance stretcher and Grissom photographs her; Brass tells him that the home owners, the Andersons, called security as they thought someone was trying to break into their house. He adds that no one knows who the woman is; Grissom notes that she has severe lacerations on her feet, so she was running hard from somewhere. He goes to the back patio window and photographs that then follows back through the yard that she ran through taking pictures of the blood on things that she touched. He goes through the woods, and finds footprints, sees her car with the driver's side door open, the keys still in the ignition, her wallet on the passenger seat with money still in it, and her driver's licence, with the name Linly Parker.

Officers comb the area while Grissom and Nick take photographs at the car. Nick comments that there are no skid marks, no signs that there was another vehicle there. Grissom says that the engine is still running, and she didn't have a flat tire, so why did she stop?

At the hospital, the nurse does the rape kit, and takes samples from Linly's hair and from under her nails. Sara tells Catherine that she'll take the kit to Greg while Catherine takes the statement; Catherine asks if she's okay, and Sara says that she's fine, she just doesn't want to take the statement. Catherine goes in and introduces herself to Linly; Linly tells her that the plates on the car began with 446 with Nevada plates, and it was a black SUV. Catherine tells her to start from the beginning; Linly says that she was driving home from work, he was tailgating so she slowed down to let him pass, but he hit her. She says that she wasn't going to stop, but he did so she pulled over; he looked normal and apologized, then went to his car to get his insurance information while she looked at her bumper, then he came back and punched her in the face, threw her over his shoulder then threw her to the ground. She says that he kept trying to kiss her on the mouth, but she wouldn't let him, so he bit her; he wanted her to look at him, and she knew that he was going to kill her; he ripped her skirt off and raped her; she adds that he didn't use a condom. She finishes by saying that while he was zipping his pants up, she kicked him in the groin and ran. Catherine asks if Linly can describe the man to a police artist, and Linly says yes. While she's been describing what happened to her, at the scene, Nick and Grissom have been finding evidence that confirms Linly's story. At the lab, Linly describes the man to the police artist; Grissom walks down the hall and sees Sara watching the artist draw the man that Linly is describing; he asks her how many vacation days she has, and she tells him probably about 10 weeks. Grissom suggests that she take a week or two off, but Sara tells him that she's fine, she's still on the case, she just didn't want to take the statement this one time. She then comments that Grissom doesn't take vacation days either, and he has no response to this.

Catherine searches for 446 Nevada plates on a black SUV, and gets 312 hits. She begins looking at the driver's licence pictures that go with them. Greg tells Grissom that he wants a decision, he wants to know if he's in the lab or in the field; Grissom tells him to find a replacement and train them, and then Greg can be in the field. Greg tells him that there was a match on the semen through CODIS to a rape that happened a year ago, a woman named Emma Dobbins was raped and killed, and the case is still open. Grissom talks to Warrick after he's gone through the evidence on the Dobbins case; Warrick tells him that the cause of death was strangulation with her own panty hose, and it happened not far from where Linly was raped, and there was also semen from that rape and size 9 footprints, similar to the ones found at the scene of Linly's rape. They compare the two cases, one was married, the other was single; one was a brunette, the other was a blonde; neither victim worked in the same place or had similar habits; Warrick comments that the only thing that they had in common was that the same guy raped them.

In the lab, the artist finishes the picture and tells Linly to close her eyes and visualize everything that happened up to the point of the rape; Linly does this, then opens her eyes and looks at the picture. She turns her head and throws up on the floor.

The picture becomes a person: a psychologist in his office, talking to a patient. Brass comes in with a woman following him, telling her husband that she tried to stop him from coming in. Brass tells Todd Coombs that they need to talk; he arrests him for the rape of Linly Parker. Outside the house, Catherine photographs his car, a dark blue SUV; Brass tells Mrs. Coombs that she can't come with her husband; Todd tells her to call a lawyer, or call Roger, and he'll know what to do. Brass comments to Catherine that Linly said the car was black, and she tells him that at night, blue looks black.

In the line up room, the men come in and step forward while Linly looks at them. As number 3, Todd Coombs, steps forward, she immediately says that this is the man who raped her.

At the station, Grissom goes to see Todd Coombs in the cells; he's pacing around and the officer who lets Grissom in comments that the guilty ones always go to sleep. Grissom goes in and asks for a DNA sample; Todd doesn't want to give it, saying that he should talk to his lawyer first. Grissom tells him that they have a warrant, and if he's innocent, then the DNA will prove that. He takes a swab from Todd's mouth, then leaves.

Nick tests Todd's shoes against footprints from the scene; Greg tests the DNA swab that Grissom took from Todd. Nick tells Catherine and Grissom that there was no match on the shoes, but he might have gotten rid of the shoes anywhere. Greg tells them that there was no match on the DNA sample, but that there were 7 of 13 alleles in common, so they're looking for one of Todd's brothers. Catherine comments that Linly was so sure when she identified Todd in the line-up; Nick says that there may have been a strong family resemblance, which may be why she picked Todd out.

Brass tells Todd that he's free to go; Mrs. Coombs is angry that they arrested him and kept him in jail overnight, and wants to know what they're supposed to tell the neighbors.

At The Palms casino, Catherine tells Linly that they had to let Todd go because the DNA ruled him out as a suspect, but Linly is certain that Todd Coombs is the one who raped her; she tells Catherine that he wanted her to look at his face because he was going to kill her and they're letting him go. Catherine tells her that it was dark, and Linly was under attack, in that kind of situation, pupils dilate, and a person loses focus. Linly insists that it was Todd, and that he wanted to kill her, so Catherine gives Linly her cell phone number and says that she should call any time, or go stay with a friend if she doesn't feel safe at home.

Sara says she hears that Grissom is looking for Todd's brother or brothers and will work up the family tree. She does this on the computer, comes up with Roger and Larry (twins), Kevin, and Bailey Coombs.

Brass and Warrick go to see Larry and Roger Coombs. They talk to Larry first, who is working on a car in the Coombs Brothers Auto Shop. He finds the situation funny, telling them that Todd was due for a reality check, as things sometimes go wrong for the rest of the world, but not for Todd. Roger comes over and tells them that he's also heard about what happened with Todd, and they're not giving any DNA samples until they talk to a lawyer. Sara and an officer talk to Bailey Coombs who also says that he heard about the police did to Todd and his wife, and doesn't want to give a DNA sample, but eventually does. At the lab, Sara asks Nick what the results are on Kevin Coombs, but Nick says that there was no one at the address and there was no forwarding address.

Catherine is in the lab; her cell phone rings, it's Linly saying that she can't wait for a gun. She tells Catherine that she's on Fremont Street, then she screams and the phone cuts out. Catherine goes to Fremont Street; the car is there, and there's an officer looking at it; the driver's side window is broken, and the officer tells Catherine that they don't know where she is, they just got there. The officers tape off the car as a crime scene; Grissom arrives and Catherine tells him that there's no new damage except the broken window, which has blood on it that Catherine says is probably from whoever broke it, not Linly. Brass tells them that a pawn shop owner identified Linly, saying that she wanted to buy a gun and wasn't in a mood to wait; he asks what the chances are that this is unrelated to the rape? Catherine says that the rapist is getting rid of a witness, and Grissom points out that Linly identified the wrong man, so why would that be necessary? He then tells Catherine that Linly was on the phone, and asks where the phone is. They call in for locations on the Coombs brothers and get reports back that Roger is in a casino; Larry is at work; Bailey is also working.

Brass goes to Todd Coombs's home and asks Mrs. Coombs where Todd is; she says that he went to buy plants, and used her car for that.

Catherine talks to Nick who accesses Linly's GPS tracker in her phone; he finds that it's in the middle of nowhere and tells Catherine that Linly is still moving. Brass puts out an APB for Todd's car, and drives to Green Valley House Company, where Mrs. Coombs said he would be. On the way there, he sees Todd at a car wash, vacuuming out his trunk. Brass stops and talks to him; Todd tells him that with no warrant, Brass can't touch the car. Brass tells him that he's just looking. Todd says that he was at the House Company buying plants for his wife to cheer her up; Brass wants him to co-operate, but Todd points out that the last time he did that, he ended up spending the night in jail. Brass points out that 12 hours after he spent the night in jail, Linly has gone missing, and Todd says that Brass is wasting his time talking to him. He leaves, and Brass calls for a CSI to come to the car wash and recover evidence from the vacuum.

In the desert, officers search for Linly, Nick says that she's still moving; they're getting closer to her. They call her name, and Nick says that she's right there, they should be able to see her. They look, and see a dog with a jacket; the dog runs off and Catherine pulls Linly's phone out of the jacket pocket. An officer calls out that she's over here; they find her body, strangled, much like the Dobbins murder from a year ago.

At the morgue, Catherine photographs the body, she notes bruising all over the body, and takes samples of dirt and spores from Linly's skin, and finds a hair.

In the desert, Sara tells Det. Vartann that the Coombs Brothers Company owned the land where Linly was found; they approach a trailer and have to walk through old cars to get there; Sara comments that the guy is an artist, then sees a black SUV. A man comes out of the trailer with a gun, yelling at them that they're on his land. Sara asks if he's Kevin Coombs while Vartann arrests and cuffs him, he tells Sara that he can see the family resemblance.

Dr. Robbins tells Grissom that Linly fought, and that she was raped again. Grissom looks at the sample; Dr. Robbins asks why the killer would rape her again if all he wanted to do was get rid of a witness, and Grissom points out that maybe rape was just the foreplay, and the guy gets off on killing.

Sara photographs cars at Kevin Coombs's place, and finds the missing Tempest from the Dobbins case.

In the interview room, Det. Vartann asks Kevin if he was home last night, but gets no answer. He tells Kevin that his DNA will talk; Kevin then says that once they have the DNA then the government can find you anywhere, they link everything up and track you. In the hallway, Grissom sees Todd waiting and asks what he's doing there; Todd says he's there for his brother. Grissom asks where the other brothers are, and Todd tells him that Bailey is only interested in himself, and Larry and Roger are more interested in their business and don't really understand Kevin; he adds that they give Kevin cars sometimes, or the pick of the things from their lot. Grissom tells him that they found a car that belonged to the victim of the first rape a year ago on Kevin's property, and the same man who raped the woman a year ago is the man who raped Linly; he adds that Linly's body was on Kevin's property. Todd tells Grissom that they've been wrong before.

Nick sorts through the vacuum material, finds a paper tag in the vacuum tube; Warrick comes in and Nick tells him that the tag is from a plant bought at the House Company, which confirms Todd's story about buying plants. Warrick finds a pin from the Palms, and comments that Linly worked at the Palms, but Nick points out that a lot of people work there.

Grissom tells Catherine that the blood from the car window matches the semen from all the rapes and isn't from any of the Coombs brothers. Greg says the hair that Catherine took from Linly's body is Todd's; Catherine says she'll have Brass bring him in. In the interview room, Grissom asks Todd to strip so that they can look for trace evidence and injuries on his body. He takes off his shirt, and then pants, there's a bruise on his wrist that he says is from moving boxes. Grissom sees scar on his back; Todd says it's an old scar from a bone marrow donation that he made for his brother Joss, who died of leukemia. Grissom asks the officer to turn off the lights; he looks at Todd's back under black light, and sees V-pattern on his back. He looks it up in reference books and finds that Blaschko's Lines matches what he saw on Todd's back. He takes a blood sample from Todd, saying that he checked the medical records and that the bone marrow that Todd donated was rejected by his brother, and that's probably when he found out about his unique medical condition. Todd tells him that the doctors explained it to him; he's a creature of myth, a chimera. Grissom says "The head of a lion, the body of a goat and the tail of a dragon; a genetic anomaly." He adds that Todd is one person with two sets of DNA, and leaves with the blood sample.

In the interview room on video, Todd tells the camera that he raped and murdered Emma Dobbins and Linly Parker, as well as others that they can talk about later. Brass asks how he picked his victims, and Todd says that the victims picked him. Grissom explains the situation to Catherine: in effect, one twin dies in utero, but the DNA survives in the other twin, so essentially, Todd's DNA from his semen is from his dead twin brother. Todd tells Brass that even though he never met the women, he didn't need to meet them to know them; when he saw a woman who aroused him, the whole world disappeared except for them, and the women couldn't say no.

On the Strip, Warrick, Nick and Sara are walking to their cars after going out for drinks. Sara congratulates Nick on his almost promotion; he comments that saying that was hard for her and she admits that it was.

At the office, Grissom gets a call; he asks "Is she all right?" At the police station, an officer tells Grissom that Sara was pulled over and was lucky that she wasn't on the Strip, as that's State jurisdiction. He tells Grissom that she blew .09, which is technically over the limit, but since it had just recently been lowered, they gave her a break, but still had to call her supervisor. Grissom sits down beside Sara in the waiting area, takes her hand and tells her that he'll drive her home.
